Andy Murray wins second Wimbledon title by beating Milos Raonic

Andy Murray’s victory gives him a second Wimbledon crown and a third Grand Slam title. It's his first Grand Slam title since he won Wimbledon in 2013. In recent years, he's been playing excellent, consistent tennis, but he's been unable to get through the likes of Djokovic and other top players in the finals of Grand Slams. His opponent Milos Raonic beated Roger Federer in the semifinals. In finals Andy Murray had comprehensively beaten Miilos Raonic 6-4,7-6(3),7-6(2) in two hours and 48 minutes with 12 unforced errors and 7 aces. First set was pretty routine for Murray, but in the second and the third set, competition was much closer. However, Raonic couldn’t withstand Murray.

In his interview, Murray said “I’ve had some great moments here and some tough losses, and I’m proud to have my hands on the trophy again. I played really good stuff today. Milos has had a great few weeks on the grass. He’s one of the harder workers out there. And a huge thank you to everyone who came out to support me. The prime minister’s here as well. Playing in a Wimbledon final is tough, but I wouldn’t want to be prime minister. It’s an impossible job.”

From now, Murray will face another great challenge: defending the Olympic title he won in London. Andy Murray will not defend his Rogers Cup title in following week to ensure he is fully rested for Olympics

Maria Sharapova scores 600th career win with victory over Lauren Davis

Maria Sharapova reached a career milestone which came as a nice surprise after a tough match.

“Oh, wow. I’ve won 600 matches?” Sharapova said, when an on-court interviewer congratulated her for the achievement earned by winning her third-round match at the Australian Open. The No. 5-seeded player then thought a moment, and laughed nervously.

“Oh boy,” she said. “Is this friendly reminder that I’m getting old?”

Sharapova is 28, which in tennis years means she’s starting to wonder how much time is left in her career, and how much longer her body will allow her to compete in a sport filled with power-hitting youngsters.

The five-time Grand Slam winner hadn’t dropped a set into the third round but struggled a bit before beating 22-year-old Lauren Davis 6-1, 6-7 (5), 6-0. After racing through the first set in just 26 minutes, Sharapova was broken twice in the second set, which lasted 77 minutes. She returned with more composure in the final set, making just five unforced errors and breaking Davis three times.

In the fourth round, Sharapova faces up-and-coming Swiss teen Belinda Bencic, who won her first two WTA titles in 2015, including at Toronto where she beat No. 1 Serena Williams in the semis followed by No. 2 Simona Halep in the final.

Sharapova could face Williams in the quarterfinals, which would be the latest in their long-running rivalry. Sharapova hasn’t beaten Williams since 2004, losing their last 17 meetings, including last year’s Australian Open final.

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga stopped his tennis match to help an injured ball girl

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga has shown his class and compassion in the second round of the Australian Open, assisting a teary-eyed injured ball girl from Margaret Court Arena.

The Frenchman earned a round of applause from the crowd at Melbourne Park after rushing to the aid of the rattled girl, who had just been struck in the face by a ball during his match against Australian teenager Omar Jasika. World No.9 Tsonga was given high praise across social media after coming to the aid of a ball girl who was in distress during his match with Omar Jasika on Wednesday.

The Frenchman revealed that he noticed the girl was unwell before serving during the third set. "At the start I thought she was normal, because she always send me ball on the side so I said 'what's happened with her" Tsonga said.

"After the second time I saw she was in trouble. I just came to her and helped her go out because she was in a bad [state]."Tsonga ultimately won his match against Jasika, but even if he didn't win, at least he won the crowd over with a simple, sweet gesture toward someone in need.
